The company was first formed in 1893 by George Collins as G. Collins, builder and later, undertaker. The first funeral was that of Mr. Borrett, landlord of the Cross Keys public house, believed to be between 1929-33. Today the company is owned and managed by brother and sister, James Collins and Gemma Burdon, who are the fifth generation family members.

The company holds membership with the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), The Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) and The Funeral Planning Authority (FPA) through Funeral Planning Services (FPS).

As a condition to membership to these organisations, a strict code of practice has to be adhered to.
