Carys Ann Evans
By the age of 7 I had started piano lessons and was in my first year at Junior School when the teacher asked one day would anyone like to take up harp lessons.
Having never really heard anyone play the harp before or even seen one up close, I was intrigued, so I went home and asked my mother if I could start having lessons. Her reaction wasn't very positive, as she knew the cost of purchasing a harp and the 'joy' of moving such a large instrument around.
Not being deterred by this, I raided my piggy bank and had enough money to pay for two lessons and my mother is now glad that my determination paid off, as I perform and teach other people to learn how to play this wonderful instrument. I went on throughout my school years to take my examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) and over 20 years on, I am still enjoying playing both the harp and piano.
Having being brought up in Fishguard, I am very fortunate to be immersed in the culture and beauty of Pembrokeshire and Wales. My homeland has inspired my repertoire over the years and now reflects the variation of pieces I play, from traditional Welsh folk songs through to modern and classical music.
