Crossways Woodland Burials

Description

In the very heart of Devon with wonderful views of Dartmoor and its tors, you will find our burial ground. Surrounded on two sides by mature trees and wild shrubs, the other two have recently been built as earth banks planted with the local hedgerow flowers, shrubs and trees. These will blend in with the hedgerows that border so many Devon lanes, giving the feeling of peace and tranquillity: a haven for wild birds and insects.

To encourage local flora and fauna the grass will only be mown twice yearly as advised by local wildlife groups but paths will be cut more regularly for ease of access.

The site is located on our small family farm. We have cattle and sheep and aim to farm with the environment in a traditional way. We are part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

During the summer of 2007, 16 different species of butterfly were seen on the farm, as were hares, badgers, foxes, roe, red deer and many different birds.

For so many people today a traditional funeral seems inappropriate.

You may hold your ceremony at the weekend or in the summer during the evening to make the most of spectacular sunsets.
